Low culture refers to the popular everyday entertainment thats designed for the masses. Its accessible, easy to understand and commercial. This form is usually seen as less "smart" or less serious.
This form of culture usually requires:
- Doesnt require special knowledge
- Is linked to the youth culutre, trends and daily lifestyle
- Is created to entertain and make profit
- Popular songs by artists like "Taylor Swift"
- Comic Books like "Spiderman"
- TV shows like "Friends or "The Simpsons"
- TikTok/ Instagram trends
Postmodern media mixes high and low culture, treating them as equally valuable.
For example:
- Classical art remixed into memes
- Luxury fashion using streetwear styles
- Music videos using cinematic techniques (e.g., Beyoncé’s Lemonade analysed like literature)
