The Song We Chose: Kaari Kaari

We chose “Kaari Kaari” by Quratulain Baloch for our music video because of its powerful feminist message and emotional depth.

The song, from the movie PINK, serves as a voice for women’s struggles. The title, Kaari Kaari (“darkness”), symbolizes the cruelty and oppression women face in society. The lyrics use vivid metaphors:

• “Raina sari” (dark nights) represents the problems and struggles women face.

• “Roshni ki pau mei badhiya si” (legs of light) symbolizes women whose freedom and dreams are restricted.

• Butterflies (titliyon ke pankh) represent women, and the stones (pathar) on their wings show the burdens imposed by society.

• Daggers (khanjar) symbolize people who try to harm or control women.

• Rain (barish), normally life-giving, is depicted as acidic or harmful (tezab), destroying dreams.

• “Pankhdi ki beti” (daughter of the petals) refers to innocent women suffering under patriarchal pressure.

The song highlights how women’s freedom, dreams, and safety are constantly under threat, portraying the prison created by a cruel society through powerful metaphors.
